Comment on any file, anywhere with OneDrive’s expanded mobile commenting

This article is contributed. See the original author and article here.

Editor’s note: This feature is available for OneDrive consumer users. It is not yet available for OneDrive for work and school.

Ideas often come to us spontaneously, and we want to capture them the moment they do. Mobile file commenting gives us the freedom to stay connected to our projects and passions wherever we are.

OneDrive has long offered mobile commenting on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Today, we’re expanding that capability to bring mobile commenting to non-Office file types, including photos, videos, PDFs, and over 300 other file types. This experience is now available for OneDrive personal users through the OneDrive mobile app for Android.

Any file, anywhere, any comment

Whether you’re sharing photos from your camping trip or finding the perfect flooring for your remodel, you might want to add comments or start a conversation around your images or files. OneDrive makes commenting anywhere on files simple and quick.

OneDrive’s mobile commenting has a rich feature set that gives you freedom to be virtually anywhere while staying connected. With mobile commenting you can:

  • Add new comments on files you own or those shared with you
  • View and reply to comments
  • Delete comments
  • Enable/disable comments
  • Get email notifications (for file owners) when’s there’s new comment activity
  • See a badge when there’s new comment activity
  • See the comment count on your files
  • See existing comments when you are offline

Make your first mobile comment

You can now use the mobile commenting feature on the OneDrive mobile app for Android. The feature is included in all free and paid OneDrive consumer plans, including Microsoft 365 personal and family plans1. Mobile commenting in the OneDrive mobile app for iOS is expected to become available on by the end of the year.

Using the mobile commenting feature lets you comment on non-Office files2 that you own, files you have shared, or on files shared with you where you have edit permissions.

To comment on a file, follow these steps:

  1. Open the OneDrive app on Android (make sure you are in your personal account, not your work account)
  2. Tap on a file
  3. Tap the comment button to start a new conversation or view/reply to comments already posted

5 tips for using OneDrive mobile commenting

Ready to comment right from your mobile device? Here are some of the many ways you can use the feature:

  1. Add captions or comments to photos, videos, or screenshots and share them privately with your family or a friend group.
  2. Share a book or album cover with a note about why you loved it.
  3. Scan old, printed photographs into OneDrive, then share them with a personal note.
  4. Scan a paper document, like your favorite cookie recipe, with the OneDrive app (it will convert it to a .pdf). Then add your secret ingredient as a comment.
  5. Stay up-to-speed on the conversation by opting into email notifications each time new comments are added.

You can do all this with confidence knowing that your digital life is private and secured in OneDrive. We do not scan your photos, files or personal content to target ads to you. Additionally, we do not sell your data to third parties or share your data without your permission.

Stay tuned! We will be expanding the functionality of OneDrive mobile commenting soon with these capabilities:

  • Commenting on folders
  • @mention support
  • Push notifications
  • Email notification optimizations
  • Badging for seen/unseen comments across OneDrive on mobile, web and PC

Download the OneDrive mobile app to begin using mobile commenting. And, feel free to send us your suggestions for making OneDrive even better on UserVoice.

1. Mobile commenting is not yet available for users of OneDrive for work or school.
2. Comments made on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files will not show up in the mobile commenting view. We recommend using the commenting feature built into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Prepare for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2

We designed Surface Hub to provide a rich and immersive collaboration experience for anyone to walk up and use without the need to authenticate. For this, we built Surface Hub with a purpose built OS, the Windows 10 Team edition – which we recently updated with the 2020 Public Preview.

To install Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise on Surface Hub 2, you’ll need to make sure that your Surface Hub’s UEFI version is 694.2938.768.0 or later. Use the Surface app on your Surface Hub 2S to check your device’s UEFI version. If your UEFI version isn’t 694.2938.768.0 or later, update your Surface Hub 2S from the Settings app.

UEFI Version.png

To install Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise on your Surface Hub 2S 50”, you will need to confirm you have the necessary license and apply changes to the device’s UEFI by enrolling your device in Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM). These changes will unlock the device’s factory settings that only allow the Windows 10 Team OS to run on Surface Hub 2S 50”.

To create a UEFI configuration package, you will need to download and install the Surface UEFI Configuration Manager from the Surface Tools for IT webpage.

Photo of the Microsoft Surface UEFI Configuratuor showing the new EnableOSMigration settingPhoto of the Microsoft Surface UEFI Configuratuor showing the new EnableOSMigration setting

Creating a SEMM package requires a certificate. Follow the instructions in Migrate to Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 to obtain one.

Use your imaging tool of choice to create a bootable Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise installation USB drive. If you’re familiar enough with SEMM, you can copy the UEFI configuration package files to the root of the Windows 10 installation USB drive and use a single USB drive throughout the process. Alternatively, you can use 2 USB drives, one for the SEMM package and one for the Windows 10 installation media.

After completing the Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise installation, download and install the Surface Hub 2 Drivers MSI. Check other post-install tasks.

For more details on how to install Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, see Migrate to Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise on Surface Hub 2.

Using Yammer REST API with the New Yammer

This article is contributed. See the original author and article here.

Yammer is revolutionizing its platform, incorporating a deeper integration with Microsoft 365, a redesigned UX, and improved, streamlined services. In order to offer customers these new features, Yammer has changed the format of the IDs that we use for communities, users, threads, and topics. This change corresponds to a shift on our backend from a REST API structure to a GraphQL structure. The old Yammer IDs are numeric (i.e. 123456), while the new IDs are a base64 encoded JSON (i.e. eyJfdHlwZSI6Ikdyb3VwIiwiaWQiOiIxMjM0NTYifQ).

It’s important that as we transition to the new Yammer, we maintain compatibility with our v1 API structure. Many of our customers depend on our v1 APIs for a myriad of business workflows and their end users rely on our v1 APIs to request specific actions from an admin, including posting announcements in specific communities or posting on behalf of executives (coming soon). Microsoft Power Automate also requires old Yammer IDs.

Our customers have informed us that their workflows break when they try to use new Yammer IDs in our v1 APIs. We have received feedback that some of our customers have developed scripts to base64 decode the new Yammer IDs themselves, while others have resorted to third-party services to attempt to extract the old Yammer ID before calling our v1 APIs.

We are making this change because we strive to offer the highest quality service to our customers, and believe the burden should not fall on our customers to convert between the old and new Yammer IDs. We aim to facilitate a seamless transition to the new Yammer platform.

In response to customer feedback, we’re very excited to announce that we’ve updated several popular v1 API endpoints to support the use of new Yammer IDs! Now, customers can use the old or the new Yammer ID and get the exact same response. See below for an example and a list of supported endpoints.

For instance, if you enter either the old numeric group ID (i.e. 47513632) or the corresponding new ID (i.e. eyJfdHlwZSI6Ikdyb3VwIiwiaWQiOiI0NzUxMzYzMiJ9), you receive the same JSON payload.

These URLs are interchangeable:

https://www.yammer.com/api/v1/users/in_group/eyJfdHlwZSI6Ikdyb3VwIiwiaWQiOiI0NzUxMzYzMiJ9.json

Supported Endpoints

GET /groups/[:id]
PUT /groups/[:id]
DELETE /groups/[:id]
GET /groups/for_user/[:id]
GET /groups/[:id]/members
GET /users/[:id]

GET /users/liked_message/[:message_id]
GET

/users/in_group/[:group_id]

GET

/messages/in_thread/[:thread_id]

GET /messages/in_group/[:group_id]

These endpoints are available today for a number of preview customers. You can find the Yammer APIs here.

Kindly contact us if you would like to join the preview group. We welcome your feedback. Please feel free to drop us a note here or email us at api@yammer.com.

Azure Active Directory External Identities goes premium with advanced security for B2C

Azure Active Directory External Identities goes premium with advanced security for B2C

This article is contributed. See the original author and article here.

Howdy folks,

Over the past six months, we have seen organizations adapt to remote business environments and engage with an unprecedented number of external users, and we’ve seen our own service usage growing like crazy for scenarios. With this growth, we also know that security continues to be top of mind.

Today, we are excited to announce the Public Preview of Conditional Access and Identity Protection for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) B2C. We also have an update to our pricing that makes all Azure AD External Identities features more predictable and affordable with support for premium security features. On the blog today, we’re welcoming back Robin Goldstein, to share more about the new capabilities and pricing.

Regards,

Alex

Hi everyone,

Previously, I shared our Azure AD External Identities vision to make it easier to secure, manage and build apps for collaborating and connecting with external users. Today’s announcement, which adds Conditional Access and Identity Protection to Azure AD B2C, is another step in our journey to help organizations protect all their identities with Microsoft’s world-class security features.

Protect your customers, apps, and brand

Security is essential to maintaining your customers’ and consumers’ trust and protecting your organization’s data. That’s why so many of our Azure AD customers rely on Azure AD Identity Protection and Azure AD Conditional Access. Identity Protection helps organizations automatically protect against account compromise with cloud intelligence, powered by advanced risk detection based on heuristics, User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA), and machine learning (ML) from signals across the Microsoft ecosystem. By pairing Conditional Access policies with the power of Identity Protection, admins can. This combination already helps Fortune 500 organizations prevent over 10 million attacks each month.

By making risk-based Conditional Access and risk detection features of Identity Protection available in Azure AD B2C, our customers can now:

  • Leverage intelligent insights to assess risk with B2C apps and end user accounts. Powered by signals from billions of monthly authentications across Azure AD and Microsoft accounts, Identity Protection real-time ML algorithms use adaptive intelligence to flag authentications as low, medium, or high risk and gets smarter and more accurate over time. Detections include atypical travel, anonymous IP addresses, malware-linked IP addresses, and Azure AD threat intelligence. Portal and API-based reports are also available.

  • Automatically address risks by configuring adaptive authentication policies for B2C users. By tailoring Conditional Access policies, app developers and administrators can mitigate real-time risk by requiring multi-factor authentication (MFA) or blocking access depending on the user risk level detected, with additional controls available based on location, group, and app.

  • Integrate with Azure AD B2C user flows and custom policies. Conditions can be triggered from built-in user flows in Azure AD B2C or can be incorporated into B2C custom policies. As with other aspects of the B2C user flow, end user experience messaging can be customized according to the organization’s voice, brand, and mitigation alternatives.

Get started today

Conditional Access and Identity Protection for Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) B2C will be progressively rolled out across Azure regions starting on September 1. To start using the new features, you will need to do a few things first:

  1. Link your Azure AD B2C tenant to an Azure subscription. This allows you to use Azure AD premium features for Azure AD External Identities and Azure AD B2C.
  2. Enable Premium P2 features in your Azure AD B2C tenant. This allows you to access Identity Protection and all future Premium P2 features for Azure AD External Identities and Azure AD B2C.
  3. Start using the new recommended user flows in Azure AD B2C. This allows you to connect to your Conditional Access policies and all new features added to B2C user flows in the future.
