At Ignite 2019 we made available a public preview of Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) to all Microsoft Endpoint Manager (MEM) customers in a public preview. Today we are pleased to announce that DFCI is now generally available.
DFCI allows you to securely manage the UEFI (BIOS) settings of your Windows Autopilot Surface device remotely via MEM in a zero-touch fashion. We have made our implementation of DFCI available in the open source Mu project.
DFCI is supported on most of the latest devices including: Surface Pro 7, Surface Pro X, Surface Laptop 3, Surface Book 3, and Surface Laptop Go.
Unlike traditional UEFI management, DFCI removes the need for managing third-party solutions and provides zero-touch firmware management by leveraging Microsoft Endpoint Manager for cloud management. DFCI also accesses the existing Windows Autopilot device information for authorization.
Simply put, DFCI greatly simplifies management of firmware settings — without having to physically touch each device.
